Ceramic Hand building Workshop FAQ

  1. What I am going to do in this workshop?
Please go through the process of creating a ceramic piece here. You are going to do steps 1 to 4. We are going to do steps 5–6 for you. You can pay us additional to get it glazed (step 8). Painting is not included in glazing (step 7 is not included).

  2. Why can't I paint my piece on the same day?
Please go through the process of creating a ceramic piece here. The process is long and requires a drier piece to be painted so that there are no smudges.
You can attend our "pottery painting workshop" if you are interested in painting a piece. Contact us if you are interested.

  3. When will I get my piece back?
Please go through the process of creating a ceramic piece here. The process is long and requires many more steps—like drying, bisque fire, glazing, and glaze fire—after you create your piece. It takes almost a month. We contact you once your piece is ready. You can pick it up from us or from the venue where it is organised. You can also book a delivery service (e.g., Dunzo, Swiggy Genie, Porter) if you can’t come to collect it and we can hand it over to them.

  4. What if I made some additional small pieces apart from the 2 pieces included in the workshop and wanted them to be bisque-fired?
    • There will be additional charges of Rs 300 if you just want to get additional pieces bisque fired.
    • For bisque fire + glazing, there will be an additional charge of Rs 600.

  5. What are the glazing charges?
If you don't know about glazing or the process of creating a ceramic piece, read this.
We charge Rs 600 for a cup or standard-size piece. The charge includes glazing (you can choose the glaze type from the options we provide) and glaze fire. This doesn't include any painting done by us.
Please note that bisque fire for up to 2 pieces is included in your workshop price and you don't have to pay extra.

  6. Why is the cost of glazing not included in the workshop registration?
As some people come to the workshop only to learn and don't want a fully functional piece at the end to take home, we don't include the glazing expense in the booking amount.
Participants who want their piece glazed by us can get it done by paying extra.

  7. Will I get a refund if my pottery piece doesn't turn out to be how I expected?
    • No. This workshop is all about experience and learning. We expect you not to have high expectations regarding a tangible outcome. Whatever you make can have a crack (depending on how you made it), and there will be no refund for breakage during firing.
    • If you opted for glazing, it will only include glazing and not painting. You can choose the glaze colour you want from the options we provide.
    • Also note that glazes are chemicals that react at high temperatures during firing to form a certain colour and finish—they can be unpredictable. If you want consistent results, we recommend opting for clear glaze.

  8. What if something happened to my piece during glaze firing?
    • As the firing goes to 1200°C, we can't predict the outcome perfectly. If your piece breaks or gets damaged during firing, there will be no refund.
    • We do our best to ensure the best outcome, but damage and breakage can happen due to factors beyond our control, and since material and effort are already spent, no refund will be issued.

  9. What is the duration of the workshop?
The hand-building workshop takes 3 hours. It can take longer depending on you, your peers, or any unforeseeable circumstances. We recommend having some buffer time after the workshop.

  10. What's Included in the workshop?
    • Workshop and all material required to make up to 2 pieces of ceramics.
    • Bisque Fire / First Fire of up to 2 pieces, which will make them semi-functional.

  11. Can I or my friend join on the spot?
Yes, though we rarely have a spot open on the workshop day. We get fully booked days before the workshop. It is always recommended to book as soon as possible. If we are booked, we'll inform you about the next available workshop.

  12. Can I get discounts on services or products?
As we have bills to pay and pottery supplies are very expensive, we do not offer any discounts.
